Following government schemes to reduce the amount of waste produced by the Nation, North Cornwall District Council decided to improve their recycling facilities by extending the Bodmin recycling centre, as well as adding staff accommodation and a brand new visitor centre.
The main building spans 66m x 40m is 7m high, with a John Reid & Sons Arch span frame. REIDsteel provided all windows and doors, including galvanized steel personnel doors and six roller shutter doors which are made to bolt into our steel, and are operated by electric motors. REIDsteel aluminium windows and doors are also installed into the building. Natural lighting was created by making 10% of the main building's roof area single skin translucent sheets, with galvanized safety mesh.
The visitor centre has been a very successful part of the project, receiving hundreds of visits from schools, clubs and members of the community, who are able to watch the sorting process from the REIDsteel elevated walkway and viewing gallery which were built into the main building.
